Astigmatism correction has gone through a lot of changes and there are now more options than ever. This vision disorder is fairly common. It usually comes from a problem with the cornea, although sometimes it is with the lens of the eye, which results in blurred vision.
The earliest method for correcting astigmatism was through glasses. Eyeglasses have been used for this disorder since 1841. Contact lenses can also be used as corrective mechanisms.
A type of surgery that was once done is astigmatic keratotomy but, with the development of lasik, it is no longer used as often as before.
Astigmatism correction experienced its greatest leap forward with lasik surgery. This laser surgery is used specifically in the case of astigmatism. The surgeon uses the laser on the cornea to correct the defect. Unfortunately, this surgery is considered elective and not normally covered by insurance as the problem can be corrected with lower cost lenses.
Many would prefer to find natural alternatives to all their medical problems. Some people believe that simple dietary changes can make a difference. Chinese herbalists are familiar with herbs that are known to have an effect on improving vision. The studies done on these herbs, however, are rarely done according to Western science parameters.
Another method that is promoted for correcting vision are eye exercises. Proponents of these exercises say that your eyes will get weaker if you rely on lenses to correct your vision, as they will not need to work so hard.

Computer vision syndrome is a serious problem for the millions of people. Due to long hours on the computers, large percent of computer users (by some research between 60 % and 90%) are prone to Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). It usually develops after more than 2 hours of work on the computer and disappears if we stop to work for a few hours.
Main CVS symptoms are :
- Eyestrain (Non-Specific Ocular Discomfort)
- Blurred Distant and Near Vision
- Diplopia (Double Vision)
- Dry or Irritated Eyes
- Fatigue
- Headache
Computer vision syndrome could be prevented if we use some simple rules.
Maintain a distance of 20-30 inches between the eyes and the computer
Use a font size of 12-14
Keep the pixel size as low as possible and flicker rate as high as possible on your computer
Purchase ergonomic furniture to ensure adequate distance from the screen and good posture, use glasses with an antireflective coating
You can prevent CVS taking regular breaks during work with computer. Also, it would be good to practice simple eye exercises.
1. Look outside the window or at a distant object for 20 seconds. Looking far away relaxes the focusing muscles inside the eye to reduce fatigue.
2. Look at a distant object for 15-20 seconds, then stare at something up close for 15-20 seconds. Then look back at the distant object. Do this 10 times. This exercise save your eyes focusing ability.
3. Take a sharpened pencil and hold it at an arm’s distance. Focus your eyes at the tip of the pencil and slowly bring it towards your eye. When you start seeing it double, repeat the exercise.
These eye exercises should be done everyday. If you are wearing spectacles, you should do the exercises without removing them. If you stick with these exercises , in the same time you will prevent very unpleasant Computer Vision Syndrome and keep good shape of your eyes.

You can use them for sports(football and …),But you should remove them before swimming and bed.
Hard contact lenses have an excelent vision, but not durable. You’ll have some foriegn body sensation at the first days or weeks. You can’t use them for sports. Hard contact lenses can correct for Keratoconus, Irregular astigmatism and …
Lasik is the final solution for those hate spectacles and contact lenses. Those who have thin corneas, keratoconus, high astigmatism and progressive nearsightedness cases are not good case for lasik.
