Laser eye surgery has arrive a long way from the early days of the treatment. But regardless of a large deal of think about being taken by surgeries to make it a protected method, difficulties can still arise.

The most general type of laser eye surgery is LASIK, but all types are voted for out by a laser which reshapes the cornea and eliminates some corneal tissue to change the focussing power of the eye.

People must take probable complications into consideration and make an acquainted conclusion about whether to get laser eye surgery.

Major Complications asoociated with Laser Eye Surgery Flap Damage or Loss

Instead of conceiving a hinged flap of tissue on the centered cornea, the whole flap could arrive off. If this were to happen it could be restored after the laser treatment. However, there is a risk that the flap could be impaired or lost.

Distorted Flap

Irregular healing of the corneal flap could conceive a garbled corneal form, producing in a decline of best-corrected vision. It should be documented that whereas difficulties of laser eye surgery are uncommon your surgeon should announce you about them former to treatment

Double Vision

Two images emerge when looking through one eye at a time.

Time Glare

Headlight glare when going by car at night.

Night Myopia

This is a inclination for eyes to become more nearsighted at evening, premier to blurry vision. This can be amended by wearing crystal with minus lenses in the dark

Halos and starbursts

This happens when the student enlarges after the treated locality at nighttime.

Vision Blurring

This is when images emerge blurrier after the refractive surgery than before.

Flap Melt

The flap starts to disintegrate and may need surgical intervention.

Flap Dislocation

This is a status in which the corneal flap is not in correct alignment in the corneal bed. This is treated with surgical intervention.

Flap Wrinkles

A foremost or secondary flap dislocation makes flap wrinkles. This is treated with surgical intervention. This is all about complications associated with Laser Eye Surgery. Hope this will help you a lot. Cheers!

In 1995 we were one of the first ten LASIK providers in the United States. This was a new procedure at that time almost 15 years ago, and since that time the success of that procedure has blossomed into an industry with over 10,000 LASIK providers today. It is certainly impossible to say who or where is the very best LASIK providers, but it is always good to be considered amongst the best. When one reviews the doctors and centers picked for the prestigious Goldline independent consumer research of best or most dependable LASER VISION providers in the last few years, it is obvious that they have picked very well recognized and credible choices. This year we were notified a few weeks ago, that we were selected by Goldline as one of only 10 LASIK practices in the entire United States. Goldline makes this decision public by publishing their decision in cooperation with Forbes Magazine. If you happen to get your hands on a copy of November 2009 Forbes, it is the issue which lists the “Most Powerful People in the World” and is their second most popular issue of the entire year. In November 2009 Forbes you will find the report issued by Goldline where they list the 10 doctors for this year and the research criteria of their selection. They required a combination of vast experience, technologically advanced care, a large number of satisfied patients, and a number of other characteristics that helped them to narrow their search to finally arriving at their list. Here were the minimum criteria as mentioned on the Goldline website:

15+ Years in Practice

10,000+ Vision Correction Procedures Performed

Certified By the American Board of Ophthalmology

Specialize in LASIK and Refractive Surgery

Use State of the Art Facilities & Equipment

We hope that this designation will make our past patients even more confident in their choice of Dishler Laser Institute as their provider. This designation is in addition to being chosen by Trusted Lasik Surgeons as one of their acknowledged LASIK providers limited to the top 1% of all LASIK doctors along with very strict criteria for membership, is a new addition to our list of achievements.

As the only LASIK provider in Colorado and in the entire region to be selected by Goldline, we are very happy that the hard work of all of our staff has been rewarded with this distinction. It is a tribute not only to myself, but to the many other people who are part of our organization from the patient representatives who answer the phone, the patient concierge who provides a single contact point for our patients care, and our nursing and professional medical staff who have continuously provided world class care to all of our patients for the last 25 years.

I am heading out to Barnes and Nobles this weekend to pick up my personal copy of Forbes and encourage anyone who is considering LASIK to do the same.

Dr. Dishler is the first doctor to perform LASIK in Colorado, the first doctor to offer blade free LASIK in Colorado, and is a consultant, lecturer, and inventor. He is involved with several FDA studies and answers questions related to laser vision correction online.

LASIK corrective eye surgery is a procedure in which a small incision is made in the cornea, allowing for the top layer of the cornea to be folded back like a flap. A laser is then used to reshape the cornea to improve vision, and the corneal flap is restored to its original position. The difference between traditional LASIK and the all-laser IntraLase method, is that IntraLase uses a laser to make the initial incision, while traditional LASIK uses a blade.

Traditional LASIK

In traditional LASIK procedures, an instrument called a keratome is used to make the initial incision in the cornea. There are two kinds of keratomes: a microkeratome, which is a blade, and an epikeratome, which is a blunt separator. Compared to the use of IntraLase, these incision methods are less accurate, may require a longer healing process, and could result in a less effective procedure.

The IntraLase Method

In contrast to the micro- and epikeratomes, the all-laser or IntraLase method uses a femtosecond laser to make the corneal flap. The laser works by emitting small, rapid pulses of light at the eye. These pulses create a precisely positioned layer of microscopic bubbles just below the cornea. The cornea is then peeled back at the point where the bubbles have formed.

Why IntraLase?

The accuracy of the laser means the IntraLase method creates a thinner corneal flap, leading to superior results than in procedures where a thicker flap is created. Also, the laser can be customized for individual eyes, taking into account diameter, angle of the flap, thickness of the cornea, and other factors unique to each patient. Also, after the procedure, the flap is gently put back into place and heals on its own, with no stitches necessary.

Wavefront LASIK (Custom LASIK) – this procedure, often-called wavefront or wavefront-guided LASIK surgery, allows more precision surgical intervention by providing doctors with a 3D map of the cornea and eye. Using this map, surgeons are able to offer more exact vision correction. Many traditional surgeons are turning to this technique as it offers fewer risks for complication.

Bladeless LASIK – in traditional LASIK surgery procedures, a surgeon uses a microkeratome or special tool to cut a flap in the cornea to reshape the eyes surface. This new procedure developed in conjunction with the IntraLase makes traditional vision correction safer. Using this technique, the surgeon uses a special laser to create the flap previously created using the microkeratome instrument. That is why the procedure is referred to as bladeless. The new procedure reduces the risk of complications associated with buttonhole flaps or corneal ablation.

Epi-LASIK – modern technology continues to provide surgeons with new choices for addressing visual disturbances. This new laser surgery helps solve many of the complications associated with traditional surgery. It offers a combination of LASIK and LASEK procedures. In the epi-LASIK procedure, the surgeon cuts the cornea’s outer epithelium using a plastic oscillating blade in lieu of a fine blade. Epi-Lasik also involves use of an epithelial separator. This procedure is recommended for people with low visual disturbances including myopia. Once the epithelial flap is created the surgeon uses traditional techniques to reshape the corneal tissue beneath.

PRK – PRK refers to photo refractive keratectomy. This refractive surgery was more popular than LASIK before LASIK surgery procedures became well known. This procedure involves slower response and healing times among patients but is a good choice for patients with complications or risk factors including thinner corneas or larger than average pupils. PRK uses an excimer laser to help reshape the cornea. PRK is helpful for those with hyperopia and myopia.

LASIK – this stands for laser epithelial keratomileusis, and is a new procedure similar to the original PRK procedure. Sometimes referred to as E-LASIK, this procedure is typically the best choice for patients with thin corneas or those with flat corneas. Patients with these risk factors are more likely to experience complications with traditional LASIK surgery. This procedure allows a surgeon to use a fine tool (trephine) instead of the microkeratome to cut the corneal flap needed to perform laser surgery. The surgeon typically follows by coating the eye in a solution of alcohol and water to help loosen the epithelium. An excimer laser can then be used to sculpt the tissue lying below. Some patients report minor eye irritation following surgery, and typically recovery times are a bit longer than traditional LASIK surgery (up to four days usually, but can be as long as seven).

CK LASIK – Conductive keratoplasty (CK) is a new type of surgery using mild heat and radio waves to help steepen the cornea. This procedure is recommended for farsighted patients and those with presbyopia. The result is better near and distance vision. This procedure is not recommended for patients who are near sighted.

This is just a small sampling of your choices when interested in refractive surgery. Your eye doctor can help you decide what procedure will help expand and enhance your vision!

Have you been thinking about having an eye surgery, you should think about Lasik eye surgery. Lasik is a kind of surgery that is hugely growing in popularity and has a very high recovery and success rate. These are the factors that you must be looking for before you choose your type of eye surgery.

As you may know, when you have eyesight problems such as short sightedness or even astigmatism, there is only one way to help this problem; removal and/or repairing your corneal tissue.

Lasik surgery safely removes the corneal tissue with a laser and this gentle laser then reshapes the cornea itself. This proceedure in turn adjusts and strengthens the power your cornea has to focus on objects far and near. This kind of surgery is more commonly known as refractive surgery. There are many types of eye surgeries that can be performed today to increase your vision strength. The most common other two types of surgery include, radial keratotomy and photorefractive keratectomy. These two surgeries are also aimed to reshape the cornea, but using different techniques to do so.

Lasik surgery can be done with a laser or with a small knife. The radial keratotomy is the type of eye surgery which uses this small knife. The small knife is used to make several slits in the cornea; these few small slits change the shape and the focus of your cornea. These two types of surgery are very effective as well as incredibly simple. There are little to no side effects that accompany these surgeries. Of course your eye will be incredibly sensitive following a surgery of this kind, but this is to be expected. You may feel slight irritation concerning your eye as well. These irritations are mild and a simple pain reliever will ease your pain. These symptoms are only directly following your Lasik surgery.

Lasik surgery is an eye surgery that works and that has proven success!

Many would consider their sight to be their most important sense, so it is logical to look after your vision by paying regular visits to the optometrist. But another part of maintaining good vision is to know when something is wrong, and to seek treatment for it. Here are some of the most common eye conditions, their symptoms, and the vision correction methods that can help remedy them.

Two of the most common vision-related problems are near and far-sightedness. Near sightedness (also called myopia) is when you can see things clearer up close, while things far away appear blurry. Far sightedness (also called hyperopia) is the opposite.

While many people will simply opt to get glasses or contact lenses for these conditions, countless others are choosing to get LASIK eye surgery instead. LASIK eye surgery is a refractive surgery that treats both near and far sightedness, as well as astigmatism – an optical condition where the optics of the eye can’t focus a point object into a sharp focused image on the retina. The result of astigmatism is blurred vision.

Other common vision problems include age-related conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. Cataracts can form at any age, but are a common consequence of getting older. It is a clouding of part of the eye (the lens) which causes vision to become blurred or dim, as light cannot pass through the clouded lens to the back of the eye. Early stages of cataracts can be treated with glasses or contact lenses, but the only thing that will take cataracts away is cataract surgery – one of the most common surgical procedures for the eye.

Glaucoma, which characterises a group of eye conditions where the optic nerve is damaged – is associated with raised pressure in the eye. The result is a reduction in the field of vision, as well as blurry vision. Glaucoma is most common in people over the age of 40, and can be treated easily and effectively if detected early. The most common forms of treatment for glaucoma are eye drops to relieve pressure in the eye, as well as surgery.

Another common vision problem is presbyopia. Presbyopia is the loss of focusing ability, and is another common result of age. In younger people, the lens is more flexible and the eye has a greater range of focus from a far to near distance. However, with age, the lens loses flexibility and the ability to focus on objects nearby. Glasses and contact lenses are the most common form of treatment for Presbyopia.

While you should be in tune with your eyesight and any problems that may arise, it’s also important that you go to see your optometrist for regular eye checkups to detect any problems with your eyes quickly. Your optometrist can also recommend a particular course of action to best treat any problems with your vision; anything from LASIK eye surgery to eye drops depending on the condition and severity.

The sooner you can catch certain conditions, the sooner – and more effectively – you can treat them. So, take care of your vision – it’s one of the most important senses you have!
