LASIK is far from perfect in some aspects, although many people especially those professional sports individuals strongly recommend the surgery. Most people have emphasized on advantageous sides of LASIK surgery but ignored its shortcomings.

It is hard to make a comparison between the total costs of eyeglasses or contact lenses during years long and the expense of LASIK at one time. But one point is true that eyeglasses or contact lenses do better in adjusting to prescription changes. People with visual defects can always get a pair of eyewear with proper prescription if enough test and fitting are made. As a person ages, the prescription is much likely to experience slight changes. Wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses, it is easy for the wearer to get a more precise prescription.

When it comes to LASIK procedure, these prescription changes are hard to be adjusted. The basic principle of LASIK surgery is that the corneal surface is reshaped using a laser so that its curvature will be changed. In this way, refractive errors can be corrected. However, the laser application involves tissue removal on the cornea, which is irreversible and always permanent. There is hardly a remedy once a patient is unsatisfied with the visual outcomes. A more disappointing fact is that patients are usually required to sign away their right to a lawsuit before the procedure.

Another shortcoming of LASIK is that it can not restore flexibility of one’s natural lens. As people age, eye flexibility decrease is inevitable. This means that one’s focus range will be narrowed. For contact lenses or eyeglasses, bifocal or multifocal lenses are widely used to provide vision correction at several distances, enabling wearers to see at a wider range. LASIK can always offer vision correction at only one distance.

Except for those shortcomings, LASIK as well as other laser eye surgeries also involves some risks. LASIK will thin the corneas, which are more vulnerable to shock or pressure. This is testified by the rule that military services of the USA are prohibited from receiving laser eye surgery.

Firmoo.com is the emerging online eyeglasses store selling high quality eyewear, such as prescription eyeglasses (single vision myopic glasses, reading glasses, bifocal and progressive eyeglasses etc.,), prescription sunglasses (with RX tinted lenses), prescription sports goggles. Firmoo guarantees lowest possible price in the market. Firmoo’s return and refund policy makes any purchase risk-free ones.

Laser eye surgery is a simple yet life-changing procedure, with the ability to alter your lifestyle and self-confidence. While the procedure itself can be performed quickly and easily – and with highly innovative optical laser equipment – it’s still imperative to have a good laser eye surgeon carry out the procedure.

However, with all the laser eye surgeons out there, the task of finding the best one can seem daunting. Countless reviews and advertisements claim to have the answer; but in the end, it’s up to you to find a surgeon who’s right for your own optical needs. In searching for the right surgeon, it’s wise to follow a few important guidelines that will point you in the right direction.

To begin, you should always ensure that every potential laser eye surgeon has the appropriate licensing and board certification. Past these vital pieces of criteria, you can meet with potential surgeons to ask some questions, regarding anything from the surgeon’s experience to the actual procedure. A quality surgeon will always be willing to spend pre-operative time with potential patients to answer questions, as well as to help build the patient’s confidence in the procedure and in his or her work.

Next, don’t underestimate referrals and reviews. Ask your regular optometrist whether he or she recommends any laser eye surgeons in particular. In addition, with the increasing popularity of laser eye surgery, chances are you’ll know someone who has had the procedure done – so keep your ears open for referrals from friends or family. Whether a past patient was pleased or dissatisfied with their laser eye surgery procedure, they’ll usually be more than happy to share their experience. If you’re not able to get a personal recommendation, try searching the internet for patient forums and reviews. You can also ask surgeons to show you testimonials from former laser eye surgery patients; however, such testimonials should be verified when possible.

Finally, you’ll want to consider cost in your search for a laser eye surgeon. While there are many discount laser eye surgery deals on the market, you certainly don’t want to compromise the quality of your procedure to save a few extra pounds. When it comes to something as important as your eyes, it’s worth taking out finance rather than settling for a mid quality procedure. However, with regard to laser eye surgery cost, you should always find out what is included in the price. Some surgeons might charge extra for consultations, after care, and post operative corrections, while others will include all of these services in their upfront cost. Make sure you find out what your quoted surgery will include, to ensure you’re not faced with any surprises down the line.

So, remember that finding a good laser eye surgeon is critical when seeking laser eye surgery. Follow a few important guidelines during your search, and you’re sure to find a surgeon who fits your personal optical needs and requirements.

Laser eye surgery is now one of the most common optical procedures in the UK, with thousands of Brits seeking the procedure as an alternative to wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses. It’s suitable for patients with all types of vision correction needs, ranging from short and long sightedness to astigmatisms. What’s more, laser eye surgery is one of the most developed procedures in the optical world, utilising innovative and highly advanced computer controlled lasers to improve a patient’s vision.

While thousands seek the procedure to correct their vision, motivations behind the correction can vary significantly. For instance, countless people seek laser eye surgery simply because it makes everyday life easier. Many people tire of having to search for their glasses first thing in the morning when they open their eyes. Correcting their vision through surgery, however, enables them to see clearly, no matter what time of day. Family life is also often made easier, with parents able to attend to children quickly at night, and never having to worry about children breaking their glasses.

Comfort is another issue when it comes to seeking laser eye surgery. Many contact lens wearers, for example, suffer from dry eyes – particularly in air-conditioned areas – while those who wear glasses often feel their eyes tire out by the end of the day. Contacts and glasses also need to be cleaned on a regular basis, while glasses can easily become fogged in certain environments. Finally, many contact lens wearers can experience infections and abrasions if they’re not careful with how they wear their lenses. Laser eye surgery can tend to all of these circumstances by eliminating the need to wear contacts or glasses altogether.

Another major reason that people seek laser eye surgery is because it enables them to partake in activities that are harder to enjoy with glasses or contacts – for example, swimming, diving, rugby, or tennis. With corrected vision, patients don’t have to worry about their glasses breaking, or their contacts falling out – they can simply enjoy their favourite activities with perfect eyesight.

Finally, one of the biggest motivations behind seeking laser eye surgery is that it enhances self-confidence. Many people feel that not having to wear glasses improves their appearance, which can subsequently boost their confidence and help their performance at work and in personal relationships.

If you’re seeking laser eye surgery, it’s important to find a surgeon who fits your optical needs. It’s also essential that you never decide on a laser eye surgeon or clinic based purely on the cost of eye laser treatment. Paying that extra bit of money could mean you get a higher quality procedure, so it’s vital that you do your research, seek referrals and reviews, and meet with potential surgeons to discuss your laser eye surgery needs.

LASEK surgery is a form of laser eye surgery that corrects refractive errors by reshaping the cornea – to this day, thousands of people the world over have benefited from this revolutionary procedure. LASEK eye surgery is performed on patients whose corneas are either too thin or too flat for LASIK eye surgery, but both procedures offer the same results in vastly improved vision and negate the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Who Can Benefit From LASEK Eye Surgery?

Patients who suffer from refractive errors will be delighted to learn that LASEK eye surgery can once and for all allow them to live life with more freedom and no longer rely on corrective eyewear.

LASEK eye surgery can be used to treat the following refractive errors:

Short-sightedness (myopia) – This eye condition results from the cornea being slightly rounder and shorter than it should be. Due to this, the light that enters the eye converges just in front of the retina, meaning that suffers experience difficulty when trying to see a clear image at a distance. Through LASEK eye surgery, the shape of the cornea is corrected and the light is made to focus precisely on the retina – meaning that the blurred images at a distance will become a thing of the past, eliminating the effects of short-sightedness!

Long-sightedness (hyperopia) – Patients who suffer from hyperopia have a cornea that is slightly flatter and shorter than it should be. This results in a blurred image because the light that enters the eye focuses on a point just behind the retina. Most people who suffer from this refractive error rely on glasses on contact lenses, but through LASEK eye surgery, the effects of hyperopia can be permanently corrected. That means no more headaches and straining eyes to get objects – both near and far – into focus.

Astigmatism – In this case, the cornea is a more conical shape than it should be – this means that light enters at different angles through this cone. This creates two points of focus and ultimately a blurred image. Although this condition is slightly more complex than myopia or hyperopia, using the right technology, virtually all astigmatism symptoms can be treated through LASEK eye surgery.

What Does the LASEK Procedure Involve?

A patient is deemed an appropriate candidate for LASEK eye surgery when they suffer from one of the above mentioned refractive errors and usually because their cornea is not thick enough to withstand LASIK eye surgery. During the LASEK procedure, an ophthalmic surgeon focuses of the preservation of the corneal epithelium. In this way, the procedure differs from both LASIK and as the surgeon does not create a corneal flap or scrape and remove the epithelium.

LASEK treats the epithelium with a diluted alcohol solution which loosens it; the surgeon then rolls the epithelium tissue back and works with a laser to reshape the exposed corneal tissue beneath. The surgeon then simply smoothly rolls back the epithelium cells in their new reshaped position.

What Happens After Laser Eye Surgery?

Recovery time from LASEK eye surgery tends to take slightly longer than that of LASIK, but in the hands of expert surgeons, the visual outcomes are the same. Patients experience vast vision improvement with maximum convenience.

Post-treatment, patients are usually prescribed medicated eye drops which aid the healing process and relieve any temporary discomfort during this time. For about the first week, patients are given a night shield to wear when sleeping, which prevents any accidental rubbing of the eyes. In some cases, patients are fitted with soft contact lenses to give further protection to the healing eyes.

Patients who undergo LASEK eye surgery will find they have a newfound freedom as they no longer have to rely on glasses or the deal with the hassles of contact lenses or spectacles. Due to their vast visual improvement, many patients say that their self-esteem is boosted, along with their confidence!

The London Vision Clinic is leading laser eye surgery clinic in the UK, boasting world-class ophthalmic surgeons who expertly perform LASIK and LASEK eye surgery.

Thinking about eye surgery using a Lasik procedure is a big step, and many people are a little hesitant to ask the questions that they have. The Lasik procedure, though widely talked about, is not discussed in detail, and people tend to fear the unknown. This article addresses some of the more commonly held fears, and talks about the experience for the vast majority of people that undergo a Lasik procedure.

One of the most common fear, both when it comes to the Lasik surgery and any operation in general is the fear of pain during and after the surgery. When a Lasik surgery is performed the eye is applied with numbing drops. The patient also receives a mild sedative so they can relax and feel comfortable. So even though you may feel a minor pressure to the eye, it is relatively pain free

The surgeon does use a laser in the eye to help reshape the cornea during the Lasik procedure. Many folks are worried about the laser being shone directly into the eye, or that they might look away and, due to this, develop a serious complication with their eyes and the Lasik laser beam effects. In actuality, the laser is only active for ten to fifteen seconds for each eye, and the Lasik machine has a tracking system that allows the beam to be on only when the eye is in the correct position.

Another general fear for people contemplating a medical procedure is fear of “the scalpel”. Any Lasik procedure uses only a very small microkeratome blade to approach the eye, or some more recent Lasik innovations have the laser itself created the flap and avoid using any hard surface at all. There is no reason to be concerned about a scalpel, for the Lasik physician does not use one.

Many wonder about the horror stories they hear about this or any other operation, and wonder about serious consequences like going blind. According the government statistics taken by the FDA, there are no reported cases of blindness due to a Lasik operation.

Actually, the risk of a serious permanent complication due to the Lasik procedure is less than 1 percent, and the risk of any permanent complications even if not serious (such as light halos) is 3 percent or less. It is extremely rare for a patient to not have improved vision after a Lasik procedure.

If the fact that you are awake and your eyes are open during the operation bothers you, just remember that you are given a mild sedative and your eyes will be dripped with numbing drops.

Is it more the thought about the Lasik physician’s hand close to the eye that bothers you? Then just think about that your eyes will be applied with drops that make your vision black out for the ten to fifteen seconds the operation takes.

LASIK eye surgery is used to reshape the cornea in order to correct vision. The LASIK refractive eye surgery procedure can treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism, and can reduce your dependency on eye glasses and contact lenses. Patients who suffer from myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism experience blurred vision. LASIK eye surgery offers you an effective treatment to improve your eye’s focusing power and enhance your vision.

What Makes a Good Candidate for LASIK?

A good candidate for LASIK eye surgery should be at least eighteen years old, have no change in refraction for at least one year and have realistic goals and expectations regarding the results of the surgery. Anyone with an eye infection or injury within the previous year should forego LASIK eye surgery. Your eye surgeon or ophthalmologist is the best one to determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure after a thorough examination and consultation.

The Risks and Benefits of LASIK

LASIK eye surgery benefits include improved vision, and freedom from eye glasses and contact lenses. This freedom from eyewear means you can perform every day functions and even participate in sports, swim, spend a comfortable day on a sandy beach or go mountain climbing without the restrictions eye glasses and contact lenses impose on you. LASIK eye surgery is an effective and safe treatment experienced by millions of people. A small number of people, one to five percent, may experience LASIK complications. Risks of LASIK eye surgery may include:

Sensitivity to light

Haloed or glared vision

Irregular astigmatism

Dry eyes

Loss of visual clarity

Recent advances in LASIK technology have dramatically reduced the risks of these complications and most problems can easily be rectified with additional treatment. LASIK eye surgery is typically nearly painless with most people complaining of only mild discomfort.

LASIK eye surgery is the most frequently performed vision surgery in the United States. Over one million people have LASIK eye surgery every year with excellent results. LASIK eye surgery is performed in less than fifteen minutes with most experiencing improved vision immediately.

Life is different after Lasik eye surgery and noticeably better. If you have been eyeglasses or wearing contacts and feel poor eyesight then you might want to consider Lasik eye surgery.

About 8,000 to 10,000 military personnel wear glasses or contacts. They need to keep in touch through regular checkups for their prescriptions. This can be very troublesome to personnel who are posted abroad and in times of war. The military can get good benefit out of the procedure of lasik eye surgery. I think now its common people in the military get Lasik treatment to eliminate the contacts or glasses.

What is Lasik ?

LASIK stands for Laser in situ Keratomileusis and it is a treatment that reshapes the cornea in order to produce clear vision. The LASIK refractive eye surgery procedure can treat myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism

What qualifications should I look for in a laser eye surgeon?

Surgeon should know several ways to improve your vision– not the only way.

Detect subtle corneal conditions that may require caution when considering laser eye surgery.

Manage your progress after surgery for best results while continuing to provide data.

Am I a good candidate for laser surgery?

LASIK patients should be at least 18 years old, demonstrate no change in refraction for at least one year, and have realistic expectations regarding the results of LASIK eye surgery. Patients who have experienced an eye infection or injury in the past year should not undergo LASIK.

Are the effects of LASIK eye surgery permanent?

In most cases, after Lasik eye surgery the vision improves almost instantly however in some cases patients say that their vision improves to an even greater degree after days pass. Connie Jarvis, I found the video of Dr. Ellis, patient she is happy after Lasik Eye Surgery.

The best Lasik for each patient are probably not the same one. The beat Lasik for you should be determined depending on the condition of your eye. Since there are many kind of Lasiks and each kind of Lasik procedure is too complex to be understood by people who are not major in ophthalmology, your eye doctor, who should usually be a qualified and certified ophthalmologist, is the best candidate in designing the best lasik procedure for you. The eye doctor should be an eye surgeon who has rich experience in Lasik, so he or she can tell you the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of Lasik. After a careful discussion, you should know the details of the surgery before it carried out, so that during the Lasik surgery, you will not panic.

Having some knowledge about Lasik before surgery may very helpful to understand the procedure. Lasik surgery was originally performed manually by an ophthalmologist without the help of computer, and the precision of the surgery was totally depended on the skill of the eye doctor. You may find some eye doctor still performing this type of Lasik nowadays. Patience may have high risk of experience problems after this kind of Lasik, however the risk may declined when the surgeon has much experience of the Lasik surgery.

Lasik is improved year by year, there are many advanced procedure in Lasik surgery, for example, IntraLasik and WaveFront mapping system. IntraLasik is an all laser technique Lasik procedure, in which a computer is used to control the laser all the time during the surgery, including creating a thin 130 micron flap, which will increase the healing speed of the eye. And of course this kind of Lasik has ultimate precision. However, it is much expensive than the traditional one. Another technique that needs added expense is WaveFront mapping system, which was first used by astronomers to correct the imperfection of telescopes’ mirror. This system can exam the condition of your eye before the eye surgery which is also guided by a computer.

For all people, healthy eyes are not only beautiful to look at, but play their essential roles as essential and vital human organs.

The common sense has it that eyes are very important and they are in great needs of protections. Some people think that eye surgery is very important for them and they want to get it. But doing is harder than saying. Such procedure can only be operated by the licensed doctors with a lot of experiences. Even though, whether one can receive eye surgery is dependent on his or her individual conditions.

As for the term of eye surgery, many laymen will be confused by their various interpretations, which can be viewed in both macroscopic and microscopic viewpoint. For example, many people suffering from cataract choose to receive eye surgery for the sake of their aging crystalline lens, which can always lead to serious vision blurriness. The eye doctor will give different suggestions and methods for individualized people in different conditions. As for some people who are suffering glaucoma, which can always lead to vision loss if it is not dealt appropriately, can receive surgeries of different kinds according to the degree of their diseases.

Some refractive surgeries are essential for people who have to wear glasses and contacts, for these surgeries can correct the refractory errors. Many people suffering from strabismus often choose to get eye muscle surgeries. Still more, eye surgeries can solve many other eye problems or diseases. For instance, if people’s eyes are injured by some accidents, or there are some other foreign bodies in their eyes, eye surgeries are very ideal choices. But all these procedures should be under the guidance of your doctor.

With the renewal of technologies, there appears LASIK eye surgery, which can be bliss for all eyeglasses wearers. The statistics has it that people with astigmatism and myopia are very fond of LASIK surgeries. Getting these surgeries are very safe and patients will not feel any pains during the 30-minute-long operating process. By reshaping the deformed cornea to its original shape, the surgeries can present the patients are bright and new world. It is such a great pioneering undertaking that patients can get rid of glasses forever after the LASIK surgery.

If one is suffering some kinds of infections or other eye diseases before the surgery, it is very essential for his or her doctor to know. Based on this condition, the doctor can do some precautions for some other potential side-effects. Still more, one’s physical conditions should also be informed to his or her doctor, so as to assure that the doctor can make the best decisions on your surgery.

Quite candidly, the perception of many people as well as our own was that a primary determinant of the affordability of LASIK was strongly related to the cost of having it done. We wonder if centers that charge slightly more or less than others benefit or are hurt by placing financial stress on the patients who elect to choose them. We are concerned about how important the cost of the procedure weighs in the average patient’s decision. Therefore, we decided to model the costs of LASIK at our current charges for the procedure as compared to the costs of glasses, contacts, solutions, and routine eye care to see just how much of a premium was involved for those who choose this option. We expected LASIK to cost more, and were very surpised just the opposite. The bottom line — having LASIK saves you money!

When we started looking at the actual costs for eye care over a lifetime we knew that there was a significant cost to glasses, contacts, solutions, and examinations for this care. We also knew that there are costs for LASIK and the costs associated with this care as well. For this reason we never put pen to paper and we were very surprised at our findings.

After a very conservative analysis these were our results:

A 20 year-old could save over $48,000 over his/her lifetime with LASIK

LASIK could pay for itself within 4 years (if you wear prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses, and use contact lenses)

LASIK is even cost effective for most people in their 40s and 50’s!

These statistics are based on the average U.S. life expectancy of 77.7 years, and our own estimates of vision correction costs based on current average industry prices and recommendations.

These are the basic cost assumptions of this analysis:

Prescription Eyeglasses: $200 every other year

Prescription Sunglasses: $350 every other year

Contact Lenses: $40 every month

Contact Lens Supplies: $12 every month

Annual Eye Exam (also applies to LASIK): $105 every year

LASIK Cost: $3,500

Actual prices will probably vary from our calculations, based on what your situation – your annual visits may be more or less expensive than our estimate, and you may pay a different amount for glasses or contacts or buy them at in less frequent intervals – but we hope that this will be helpful for anyone who is researching the costs and benefits of LASIK.

Importantly this model includes important eye examinations AFTER LASIK which add costs to the LASIK choice, but is far outweighed by the other costs. The savings are probably even greater than calculated because there is an increase or escalation in the costs of things like glasses every year whereas the costs with LASIK are fixed. Even taking into account that a small percentage of LASIK patients may need an enhancement procedure years later, there is still an obvious and significant savings by having the procedure.

What really puts this over the top is the benefit of financing at zero or a low percentage, since the time of financing takes away the large capital cost of having the procedure, and by the time that the procedure is paid for, about half of the savings has been realized. Also, the other half can be covered with the fact that the surgery is tax deductible and/or the use of flexible savings accounts to use pre-tax dollars to cover the costs.

If you want the details, this table shows at ages in 5 year increments what the projected savings over a lifetime are for having LASIK surgery. For instance, a 30 year old would need prescription glasses and sunglasses every two years and contact lenses and supplies totaling almost $53,000. Even with the costs of LASIK and examinations, there is a savings of over $39,000! Yes, some people may not wear contacts this entire time, but it is our experience that most LASIK patients are contact wearers who also have prescription glasses. Also, we are being very conservative on glasses costs. Some prescription glasses from designers with all the bells and whistles come in close to $1,000 just for one pair of glasses.

Based on the estimated costs of this analysis we can see that contact lenses and their associated costs are substantial. This assumption is for daily wear disposable contacts. Obviously for all of those who have significant astigmatism and require toric contact lenses the costs are significantly more. By contrast, anyone who only wears glasses can subtract the contact lens costs from their personal analysis. Even for these people, there is still a savings by having LASIK over glasses alone, or for that matter for contacts alone without glasses. The latter is not recommended in that contact lens patients should always have glasses, at least for a backup should they not be able to wear their contacts. Again, our experience is that most patients have a number of glasses and contacts when they come to visit us for consideration of LASIK. This analysis also does not take into consideration the increased costs of bifocals or trifocals, which are substantially more expensive than single vision glasses.

Based on all of these factors, we believe that on average this analysis is accurate for the average person and thus demonstrates the financial benefit of LASIK clearly. There are certainly many disclaimers that should be made on this type of an analysis and to the extent that we have missed anything important, please forgive us and feel free to comment to this post and we will make corrections.

So how often is there something that you can do which will benefit you for a lifetime, providing you with an improved quality of life AND save you money? Here is my epiphany — I think that at some level patients have realized this fact and that is why so many millions of people worldwide have decided to have LASIK vision correction. Not only for the lifestyle benefit, but also for the financial benefit.

In a broader context, is not a healthier America a better and more cost effective America? Can we learn something here that has broader implications in the health care debate and legislation before us today? The emphasis should be on what we can provide to the American people that is valuable and will ultimately decrease the cost of health care and increase human productivity which will make us net a wealthier nation. This country is based on a combination of a free market economy and helping those who cannot afford to help themselves. We should be able to extend this philosophy to medical, dental, and eye care.

In the meantime, I am happy to learn that LASIK has helped to provide a better life while saving money for all of those who needed it.

Here is the most impressive thing, the epiphany. While $3500 is a substantial amount of money, it is just about the smallest number on this chart. Would it really matter if this was $5,000 instead? Not much really. So the costs for this procedure should not drive the decision to have it but rather whether it is a good idea for a particular person and also picking the best provider to have the greatest chance of realizing these savings. Second, even people who are over 40 years of age still will have a substantial benefit. In fact at age 40 there is still over $30,000 of savings by having LASIK.
