Cheap eyeglasses are a reality. Check out Eric’s review of Zenni Optical

When your cheap prescription glasses break or need to be replaced, what do you do? If you’re like most people, you go to your optometrist and get a prescription and then you head to an eyeglass store for the actual pair of eyeglasses. And those eyeglasses are really expensive, aren’t they? Even going to an eyeglass store like Lens Crafters or Cohen Fashion Optical over at Kings Plaza can be expensive, with costs exceeding $100 for a single pair of basic glasses. However, there is a solution. There is a place with cheap eyeglasses that are just as good as what you’ll find elsewhere. The place I’m talking about is Zenni Optical and their prices will blow you away.

Before we go any further, a disclaimer: this author has exactly zero relationship with Zenni optical other than being a satisfied customer. No money has been paid to him or Examiner.com for reviewing Zenni Optical and no goods were offered, nor was this review requested or in any way initiated by Zenni Optical or Examiner.com Now, back to the review, which is what you want to know about anyway. Zenni sells full prescription eyeglasses starting at just $8 per pair. Yes, that’s right, eight bucks. Talk about cheap prescription eyeglasses, huh? Their prices range up to around $40 and there is an extra charge if you want bifocals or thick lenses. They also charge extra for anti-glare coating (though it’s $4.95 extra as opposed to around $50-$100 extra elsewhere). Shipping is just $4.95 no matter how many pairs you order, so it pays to order for the whole family at one time.

The way Zenni is able to offer their memory metal eyeglasses for so cheap is that they are manufactured overseas at a lab in China (though the quality is just as good as anything bought here) and that points up the biggest drawback with Zenni optical. They take a few weeks to send you your glasses, so if you simply must have them in an hour or two, you’ll need to use someone local.

Another drawback is that there are no designer frames. Then again, if you were looking for 10 dollar eyeglass frame, you’d probably be looking elsewhere anyway. One other major drawback is that you must provide them with your PD (pupilary distance) number. This is the distance between the black part of your eyes and it’s used to calculate exactly how large the frame needs to be. While they tell you how to do it yourself, it pays to contact your eye doctor and ask for your PD number since the do it yourself method rarely produces accurate results. Your PD number will not be written down on a prescription, however your doctor will provide the number if you request it.

I’ve personally purchased all my glasses from Zenni for the past eight years or so and have never been disappointed with them. In this tough economy, it pays for all us Brooklynites to stick together and find ways of saving money. I strongly suggest dropping by Zenni to check them out at .

One more note: For those truly suffering in this economy, there are also discounted eye exams available at Lutheran Medical Center, which range in cost from $15-$50 depending on income (bring three pay stubs, unemployment statements or some other proof of your income when you go).

Proper Eye Care Essential for Healthy Sight

Your eyes are one of your most important senses. Communicating a wealth of information to your brain, you rely on them to perform a number of essential tasks, like detecting danger and finding sustenance. However, according to research, nearly two thirds of the UK adult population wears glasses or contact lenses. Not only that, but by the time people reach their 60s, 90 percent will require some form of corrective vision.

Making the most of your eyes by looking after them properly, therefore, is of utmost importance. Regular eye tests from a young age are vital and will significantly help to track any changes in your vision, as well as identify problems like short- or long-sightedness early on. Additionally, eye examinations can detect a wide range of other issues, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Thanks to advancements in technology, many people who experience vision problems now have the option to permanently correct their eyesight, thus removing the need to wear glasses or contact lenses. In fact, utilising the latest laser technologies, a number of treatments have sprung up in the last few years, which are serving to help millions of people correct their sight.

Having been carried out on more than 22 million individuals worldwide, LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ-Keratomileusis) is the most common form of eye surgery available. Helping to improve many cases of short- and long-sightedness, as well as astigmatism, it is a relatively non-invasive treatment lasting for approximately 10 minutes.

Using an excimer laser, the optician can reshape the surface of the eye, or if required, both eyes at the same time. More often than not, people notice a significant improvement in their vision just a few hours after the procedure and can usually return to work or drive again after 48 hours.

In comparison to other forms of eye surgery, many patients report experiencing less discomfort after the LASIK procedure has been carried out. Additionally, because it does not remove the epithelium, like LASEK (Laser-Assisted-Epithelia-Keratomileusis) surgery, for example, the eye heals a lot more naturally.

Before the treatment is carried out, you will need to find a reputable optician and schedule a consultation. The internet provides a wealth of information on the subject and a quick search will see you find a range of facts on the procedure, as well as a number of different opticians. After that, you can then discuss with your eye care specialist whether or not the surgery is right for you.

The health of your eyes is crucial. Consequently, it is important to make sure that you care for them properly. However, if you do experience difficulties with your sight, there are many things that can be done to help it, such as LASIK eye surgery. As a result, you can then focus on the more fun things in life.

Why Wearing Glasses Doesn’t Have to be Testing

Traditionally relegated to the bottom of the fashion bin, glasses have received a lot of stick over the years. However, thanks to improvements in frame designs and a bigger selection of different types of glasses, the previously frowned upon item has grown to become a highly sought after fashion accessory.

Indeed, there are a number of unique and designer glasses available from the likes of Prada, Oakley and Vivienne Westwood. Good news then for the fashion conscious glasses wearers of you out there, as it means you can easily find a style to suit your look, as well as experiment with the different types of frames.

According to this season’s autumn/winter trends, glasses are a hot look. To recreate the ultimate geek chic style, opt for a pair of thick, boxy frames in black or bright colours. Think back to the 1970s for inspiration.

Completely round glasses in the style of John Lennon have also made a comeback, but they can be difficult to pull off so make sure you’re confident about the look before investing in a pair! And, whilst big might be beautiful when it comes to sunglasses, beware of oversized spectacles as they will only serve to drown out your features.

Before getting a new pair of glasses, it is important to find a pair that you’re comfortable with and that suits your face shape. Although it can be tempting to buy a pair of designer specs, they will end up being a costly expense when you get home and decide that they’re too wacky to go with anything in your wardrobe!

It is also essential to get your eyes tested beforehand, so that the optician can ensure the lenses are exactly matched to your eyesight. Eye tests are also critical for identifying a number of other health problems, in addition to checking your sight. In fact, regular eye checks with a recognised optician can help to spot such things as glaucoma and cataracts, as well as diabetes and high blood pressure.

To find an optician that is right for your needs, it can pay to do some research on the subject. The internet is home to a plethora of information and customer opinions, meaning it is easy to see what’s out there. Ideally, you should look for one that will carry out a thorough range of eye examinations, including testing your visual accuracy and eye health.

Your eyes are important and, as such, should be treated with care. And, whilst there is a stunning selection of glasses to choose from, it is important to get a proper eye test before running out and purchasing the prettiest pair on the shelf. However, once you have spoken with an optician, it should then be easy to find a style you’re happy with.

See Better Naturally – Exercises and Relaxation Tips

There are ways to improve your vision naturally, simple techniques and exercises that you can learn easily enough, that can be added to your everyday routines. Fortunately they are easy to do and can have a very positive effect on your overall well being as your eyesight improves.

Too many people today are depending on glasses or contact lenses to improve their vision to see clearly and there are a large number of people who are resorting to Lasik surgery to permanently improve their vision. It wasn’t always that way; One hundred years ago about 10 percent of the population in the USA wore glasses, today the number is over 50 percent.

We know a lot has changed over the past 100 years, everyday life in general has become more stressful and eye strain is more common because of the close up and detail work that we do. Even the invention of electricity and advanced technology plays a part as we read and use our computers all hours of the day and night, and street lights make the roads safe to drive at night but the glare from them and oncoming headlights can cause fatigue and eyestrain.

The eye functions in part because of the actions of the eye muscles’ and like all muscles of the body they can be strained and damaged by overuse and repetitive actions. This is why it is important that we relax and exercise the eyes and their muscles.

Some Techniques to See Better Naturally

First is the DOT exercise. You can do this one now. Find a period or comma in the text you are reading and bring it into focus as clearly as possible. It will probably become blurry as you do this.

Next close your eyes and let them relax. Deep breathing can help here as you concentrate on relaxing your eyes. After a minute open your eyes and look again at the period without straining and let your eyes move around the page, over and around the period. Blink occasionally to keep your eyes moist.

Next close your eyes and picture the dot and then look again at it. As the eyes become relaxed it should be easier to see the dot.

Second is the WORD exercise. Find a word on the page that is five or more letters long and without moving your eyes stare at the word so that all letters are in view. Focus on the entire word and create an image in your head. Again it will become blurry as you concentrate.

Now relax your eyes and let them move over the page naturally, all around the word and not forcing them to look at what you want. When you do look at the word it should be clearer. Letting the eyes move around will help them to work better without the strain.

Third exercise is the DOUBLE VISION exercise. Most people have a dominant eye and use it to look at an object while the other eye does its own thing. This exercise will help them to work together as a team.

Relax your eyes and focus on the object in a calm way. By crossing the eyes you will see two images, try to focus in on each and slowly bring them together and focus on the one image. The trick here is to be relaxed and to do this calmly.

These are just a few of the many exercises that you can begin doing daily to help you to see better naturally. It is not impossible to see significant improvement in your vision after taking part in a daily program of exercise and relaxation techniques. You can lose your glasses forever.
