Eyes Do Need More Care in Winter

After the dry autumn, there is the cold and still dry winter. The temperature is nearly zero with some snow and the wind becomes strong and fierce day and night. For occupational women, working in the air-conditioning office room, eyes are easy to become dry, together with working in front of computer screen for hours. Keep eyes moving and give them more rest. Never concentrating on the screen over one hour. Five to ten minutes every hour is a must to keep healthy eyes. Then do the eye exercises and look in a distance. A cup of tea at hands to create moist environment, is also a good idea. Then are various of fruit and vegetables, like orange and green vegetables. They can complement enough vitamins and some water to the body. By the way, try to sleep early at night. Staying up late and less sleep are both harmful behaviours risking the health of body, especially eyes. For people with contact lens, do take off them and change for the glasses, when working with computer, especially in these harsh days.

Moreover, the skin is dry, too. Keeping skin moist is a hard and difficult task in autumn and winter. Compared to more makeup, some right food is more healthy. Some fruit and vegetables, like cucumber, tomato, grape, lemon, kiwifruit, etc. Besides all the above food, why not have a glass of milk and soybean in the morning? Of course, all the above food are not only good for skin, but also right food for our eyes’ heatlh. In daily, we should do some trifles to keep healthy. In fact, they are not excessive things and every trifle-looking measure is important for our health.

Retinitis Pigmentosa – A Genetic Disease

A retinitis pigmentosa or retinitis pigmentosa(or retinitis pigmentosa, retinopathia pigmentosa, RP) is a genetic disease that attacks the retina causing destruction of their cells. The patient has the disease gradually loses the sight First night vision after vision even during the day. The loss of perception of colors and shades in contrast also gradually affects the patient.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of inherited diseases of the retina (it is structure of the Eye) that all lead to a gradual progressive reduction in vision. Difficulties with night vision, sight and peripheral vision are the first things that are noticed. Later, reading vision (detailed vision) and color vision are affected and exaggerated. The age at which symptoms begin is variable and may vary with the different hereditary and genetic types (Genetics and Retinitis Pigmentosa). The time and rate at which vision deteriorates is variable but is generally very slow with changes occurring over years rather than months. In approximately half of all cases (50 to 60%) there are other family members with RP. There are main three most important inheritance patterns, autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant and X-linked inheritance, depending on the genetic cause (Genetics and Retinitis Pigmentosa). Retinitis pigmentosa mainly affects approx 1 in 3,000 to 4,000 people.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group name of hereditary eye disorders. These disorders have an effect on the retina, which is the inside layer light-sensitive tissue, lining the back of the eye, in which the first stages of seeing take place. In RP, sight loss is slow and gradual but progressive. It is abnormal and unusual for people with RP to become totally blind as most retain some useful vision well into old age.

Causes of Retinitis pigmentosa (RP):
It is currently known that there are many different inherited problems causing RP. In all Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) -associated conditions however, the ability of the retina to respond to light is affected. The problem can be in numerous parts of the retina such as the rod or cone cells, or in the connections between the cells of the retina.
Symptoms of RP

The most common first symptom is difficulty in seeing in poor light, for example outdoors at dusk, or in a dimly lit room. A second indication is reduction of the visual field, in which view is lost from the sides, or from above and below. This is frequently referred to as tunnel vision and means that the rod cells, and several of the outer cone cells, have been affected first.

In some Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) – associated conditions central vision is lost first. The first signs of this are complicated in reading print or carrying out detailed work. All Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) conditions are progressive, but the speed at which deterioration takes place varies from one person to another.

In various types of Retinitis pigmentosa, glare from bright lights is an increasing problem and trouble, although some people do not experience this until the more advanced stages.

There is no hard and fast rule, but in most cases the early symptoms of Retinitis pigmentosa increase and develop between the ages of 10 and 30.

It Is Not Wise to Wear the Contact Lenses

It is not wise to wear the contact lenses for long time, because it can bring us a lot of troubles that we even do not think about before.

One of my roommates is deeply fond of wearing the contact lenses. One night when she took off her contact lenses, she found that her eye red and swollen. At first we all thought that it was because she was too busy at that time. She needed to drop some eye drops and have a good sleep. About thirty minutes later she got up and said that her eyes were painful.

It should be that. Before if our eyes were sick, the eye drops were vey helpful. It was strange so we decided to see the doctor. After the examination, the doctor said that my roommate’s eye corneas had already ulcer. When we asked whether it was serious, the doctor was just shaking his head. We knew that it was serious. Then the doctor said that my roommate’s vision would drop badly and even she was cured, there would be some white spots in her eyes. The doctor’s remarks made me fear.

Like my roommate, I also wore the contact glasses. So I should not wear them at all. I said this to the doctor. The doctor said that it was OK if we did not wear the contact lenses for long time. What was the worse is that the contact lenses would absorb our tear and the collagens which can multiplies the germ and then cause the cornea dropsy. It sounded that the contact lenses were too dangerous.

When we asked why the contact lenses were so harmful to our eyes, the doctor said that our eyes, like our skins, need breathing. When we wore the contact lenses, our eyes could not breathe, so they were lacking in the oxygen.

The danger of the contact lenses is potential. At the most time we can not realize them clearly so we should not wear them for a long time and we should examine our eyes frequently.

Consider the Allegretto Wave Laser for LASIK

When someone decides that they want LASIK, they rarely consider the type of laser that will be used to fix their vision. While it is true that there are many different lasers used by ophthalmologists to correct myopia or hyperopia, you may want to know a little about the one that will be used on your eyes, especially if you are concerned about some of the side effects on your night vision that you may have heard about. Halos and glare are extremely rare, but they have a bothersome effect on LASIK patients. One of the latest generation lasers that can solve these types of issues is called the Allegretto Wave excimer laser.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the Allegretto Wave laser in 2003 for use with LASIK surgery. Allegretto Wave uses PerfectPulse Technology. This technology basically means that the laser is calibrated for your individual eye and does not act as a blanket solution for all eyes. Think of your eye like a fingerprint: no one else has your exact eye. One of the problems with older lasers is that they may have acted as a one-size-fits-all solution. It is here where some of the problems with LASIK have occurred. With Allegretto Wave’s PerfectPulse Technology, the beam’s pulse hits your eye exactly where it should. Checkpoints are made even as the pulse works at 200 times per second. If an adjustment is needed, this can be done, if your eye moves out of the beam’s range, for example.

Allegretto Wave also uses something called wavefront-guided technology. This essentially creates a map of your eye. Because no two eyes are the same, the eye’s “cartography” is important at the microscopic level. Since the laser will be sculpting your cornea, it is necessary that a map be created so that the 200 pulses per second know where they’re going. When this is done, more corneal tissue is preserved.

One of the unique features about Allegretto Wave is that it is able to read a large optical zone. This is the zone of the pupil that is affected by night vision (the more light needed in the eye, the larger the pupil zone). Through reading and mapping the entire optical zone, the chances of halos and glare are nearly eliminated.

If you are in the New York City, Manhattan, or Long Island, New York area and would like to learn more about the Allegretto Wave laser, please visit the website of board certified ophthalmologist Dr. James Kelly.
