Lotemax Eye Drops are good for eye redness treatment

Loteprednol, the ophthalmic solution of Bausch & Lomb, was originally bought from Pharmos Corporation with a price of about $25 million. Now the most commonly used brand names of the solution in the U.S. are: Lotemax and Alrex, while the former has ranked first in the country’s prescribed ophthalmic steroid brands.

Lotemax is labeled as corticosteroid. If you have ophthalmic diseases like pinkeye, eye redness caused by seasonal allergies, or inflammation suffered from surgeries, Lotemax eye drops are good for you, but you can only get them when the ophthalmologists prescribe for you. Be cautious before using these eye drops, since they can’t be used on people who are allergic to the preservative benzalkonium chloride, particularly pregnant women.

Some experiments have been done on animals, making them to take high doses of medicine orally, and thus to observe whether there will be side effects, while the results showed that it could cause infertility. Remember not to wear contacts when you are using the 0.5% strength of the solution, and wear contacts again at least 10 minutes after administering eye drops when you use the 0.2% strength of the solution with the symptom of eye redness.

The dose of ophthalmic loteprednol will be different for different patients, the average doses of Lotemax is one or two drops every six hours, with a treatment of two weeks. But you can not extend or reduce using time at your will. If you will be using this medicine for more than few weeks, some unwanted effects may occur such as impaired optic nerve or glaucoma. Be aware that along with its needed effects, this medicine may increase intraocular pressure and cause eye infection of fungus.

How to Treat Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease that affects the eyes and if not treated can permanently damage the optical nerve which can result in blindness and loss of vision. This article will detail a few Glaucoma therapy treatments available and the advantages and disadvantages regarding each.

The damage caused by glaucoma is commonly caused by a high intra-ocular pressure. This pressure is provided by a clear liquid, aqueous humor, which flows through the eye helps to maintain and nourish the tissue within the eye.

In circumstances where the production of this liquid is increased and the methods for drainage are decreased damage occurs to the nerves and peripheral sight is lost, this effect is called Open Angle Glaucoma (OAG).

A way to treat this form OAG is to assist in lowering the pressure within the eye, the treatment for this is usually through eye drops, laser therapy or surgery.

The most common Glaucoma therapy treatments are the eye drops, the disadvantages for using eye drops are that they can be expensive, messy and can have side effects. In addition to this depending on the severity of the OAG you may need to use them for the remainder of your life. Some of these drops assist in draining the fluid whilst others act to reduce the amount of fluid produced, the effect being the same.

Lasers also can be used for Glaucoma therapy. This technique is called laser therapy. Laser therapy uses lasers to target the cells in the eye which contain melanin which is a natural pigment. The body will then act to repair the damaged cells and as an effect of this will decrease the pressure that has built up within the eye.

Glaucoma as stated can cause permanent loss of vision if it is not treated. There is no way to determine whether the glaucoma has been successfully controlled and as such if you have this condition you should make regular trips to your GP to ensure it does not get out of control.

Tips on Healing Glaucoma Naturally

Glaucoma is one of the serious eye problems which can cause eye blindness. Increased eye pressure is a sign of glaucoma. Eye surgeries and eye drops may commonly be suggested to release the high ocular pressure in the eye. However, it is really ironical that the side effects of surgeries and eye drops would also lead to ultimate blindness.

According to Dr. Leslie Salov’s book “Secrets for Better Vision”, most glaucoma patients have very stressful and busy lives, most of whom are highly intelligent professionals. Dr. Salov believes that in order to improve eye health you should improve your entire health simultaneously, because every apparatus in your body can affect each other, and eyes are only a small part of your whole body. Simply speaking, in order to heal your eyes you must heal your body first, including physiology, biology, chemistry, philosophy and even spirituality.

Dr. Salov had recommended several methods to treat glaucoma. Through visualization you can control your body by your mind in order to heal itself. When you thinking good images in your mind, it can relax the muscles of your eye’s canal of Schlemm in which watery substance is collected, so that extra fluid can be excreted and the eye pressure can be relieved. Visualization has the similar function with eye drops, when it doesn’t have long-term side effects, for instance pieces of iris falling off, causing blockage. It is important that you use visualization with dedication and consistency, so that you can get the maximum benefits.

Meditation is a condition of thinking of nothing. It is another way to removes your stresses and worries after a day’s working. Because stress can lead to chemical changes in your body, decreasing blood flow and oxygen level.

Through deep and slow breathing you can deep clean your body and mind, and also improve your vision health.

A no-meat diet is strongly recommended by Dr. Salov, because the antibiotics, chemical dyes, and growth hormones in meat can also destroy your eye health. Without strong immunity, your eyes cannot utilize their natural healing ability.

Do them in your daily life, and you will see your glaucoma being healed naturally.

A variety of eye tests

Many people can not realize that their vision is actually declining gradually that a pair of eyeglasses is needed or there should be a change of eyeglass prescription. It is highly recommended by most eye doctors that individuals should visit an eye doctor for regular eye tests. Actually an eye testing is more than offering prescription check or update. Comprehensive eye exams are also capable of detecting early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts. Other vision-related health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can also be monitored.

Eye test is just a basic concept and there are a variety of eye tests. Each one has its own feature and function, which in most cases can not be replaced with another. In this case, people who are planning to see an eye doctor for an eye exam should keep clear in mind the difference of the kinds of eye tests and what they can get from certain tests.

A focimetry exam is always conducted by the doctor to determine the current prescription strength if the patient is wearing eyeglasses. To ensure the stability of the prescription, the eye doctor is also likely to give refraction, which can also verify the current prescription. In detail, an auto-refraction will first be used to determine the baseline prescription. And a second light-based exam named slit lamp exam can examine the patient’s cornea, conjunctiva, lids, iris and lens using a microscope and a small beam.

For additional information, the patient can also receive an ocular muscle assessment, which can evaluate the strength and flexibility of the eye muscles. Moreover, a tonometry exam is sometimes carried out to measure the eye pressure, which always helps in diagnosing glaucoma. At the last, the internal eye may be tested through a retinal exam, in which case eye drops are needed.

Regular vision examination is only one of the services that are enabled by consulting a health professional for everything checks. These doctors’ visits are indispensable actions to maintain a healthy lifestyle, in addition to exercising, taking vitamins, eating healthily and refraining from smoking and so on.

Types of glaucoma and diagnosis

In the United States, more than a half of the 2.5 million glaucoma patients suffer from different degrees of vision loss. Resulted from internal eye pressure (IOP) built-up and optic nerve damage, glaucoma has been the second leading cause of blindness.

From the IOP accumulation and optic nerve damage to various degrees of vision loss, there are always no obvious symptoms so that glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight”. One exception may happen to acute angle-closure glaucoma, which bring blurry womens vision, halos, intense eye pain, nausea or vomiting.

Tonometers can measure your IOP either by resting a small probe or sending an air puff onto your eye’s surface. IOP above 30 mmHg indicates a problem of the amount of fluid in the eye and brings a much higher risk of developing glaucoma. Special eye drops are created to keep IOP low, which is a treatment for glaucoma.

Scanning laser polarimetry, optical coherence tomography and confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscopy can be used to monitor the progression of glaucoma by setting up baselines and detecting changes. Optic damage by glaucoma may bring blind spots, so that visual field tests can also be used to monitor glaucoma. And ophthalmoscope can be used to view your eye’s internal structures.

There are mainly two types of glaucoma: acute angle-closure glaucoma and chronic or primary open-angel glaucoma. Chronic glaucoma has no obvious symptoms during its process of decreasing your peripheral vision. The result is that you can only see objects straight ahead. Unlike primary open-angle glaucoma, another form of open-angle glaucoma has normal IOP level, which is called normal-tension glaucoma. This type of glaucoma has no other different features with primary open-angle glaucoma. Also called narrow angle glaucoma, angle-closure glaucoma brings unexpected symptoms such as eye pain, headaches, halos, red eye etc… These symptoms appear in certain periods.

Besides the above types of glaucoma, there are still other variations. Pigmentary glaucoma is caused by iris pigment deposits and clogs the draining angles. This form of glaucoma also has no clear symptoms. Secondary glaucoma is always associated with infection, inflammation or an enlarged cataract. Infants may be born with congenital glaucoma due to natural narrow angles. Parents should take good care of their babies’ eyes, in case of congenital glaucoma signs such as cloudy, white or hazy eye.

Eye drops with medication are used to control glaucoma by bringing down IOP. Careless use of these eye drops may bring higher risks of vision loss. Further treatments include glaucoma surgery, lasers and medications.
