In the age of internet, it will be silly to ask for the availability of contact lenses without prescription. But if you ask whether you should buy contacts without a valid prescription, it will involve thinking. In many countries buying and even selling contact lenses to people is illegal. But you are still restless finding a suitable pair of contact lenses and that also without having a prescription. Internet may take you to many tours at the online shops selling those contact lenses. Now, when you find alternatives, a question will suddenly strike your mind whether you are making any mistakes, or, can it harm your eyes? Introduce broad perspective to your thinking.

The US Food and Drug Administration issued a stark warning consistent to this matter. The notification includes warning to consumer’s responsibility and seller’s discrepancy. This had a valid and good reason because eyes are the most important organ compared to other parts of one’s body. However, this alert has not been able to stop various companies selling non prescription contacts online and, while FDA has approved many of them, the rest is involved in selling lenses at a cheap rate for which they hardly demand any prescription.

It is a duty of a responsible individual to have their eyes checked regularly by an eye care professional. It is not just a responsibility; it’s a sign of well bred person. Your optician may guide you towards proper treatment of your critical eye problems. A doctor can check whether or not your eyes are allergenic to lenses. With age progression, your eye power decreases naturally. Therefore, an updated eye prescription is needed for convenience.

Even though you wear non prescription contact lenses, they are not meant to rectify your vision. The most widespread type of non prescription contact lenses available are the opaque color contact lenses. theatrical use for colored lenses or cosmetic lenses which are partly worn as a part of a scary Halloween costume are subject to care as to avoid any kind of infection. For filmy use, performers wearing colored lenses are likely to apply heavy makeup and glittering finish on body and hair; hence, some stern precaution is to be taken.

Your decision may ascertain your folly if you are looking for cheap ones. When you are buying a non prescription fashion contact lens, make sure that it is approved by FDA. While cheap prices are attractive and irresistible, it can make a permanent physical adversity.

In modern days, we can not move out without internet. So, beware of fakes. If your domain of knowledge concerning wearing lenses is limited, you are advised to undergo medical supervision. Because no other than an optician know lenses better. He will examine your eyes and according to the capability and your usage, surely give you a better choice.

If you have already taken contact lenses without possessing a prescription and it is working great, you should be very cautious about its care, its proper insertion and removal process. It is necessary to know that a diabetic person generally tends to loose natural immunity. So, simply, if any eye infection happens, it will take a long time to cure properly.

Thanks to continued advances in laser eye surgery, refractive surgery tools and techniques, glasses and contact lenses are fast becoming obsolete for many patients with astigmatism. Patients with undetected astigmatism often experience headaches, fatigue, eyestrain and blurred vision at all distances. Because astigmatism may not be recognized as the cause of these symptoms, this condition may go undiagnosed and continue to affect sufferers. Astigmatism can also be present in children, affecting their ability to see well in school and while playing sports.

Characterized by an irregular curvature of the cornea, astigmatism can be detected by regular eye examinations and successfully treated using procedures such as laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), laser epithelial keratomileusis (LASEK), laser thermokeratoplasy (LTK) and astigmatic keratotomy (AK; Table 1). An ophthalmologist can determine which type of procedure will work best for each patient.

Worldwide, >17 million people have undergone laser refractive surgery, and refractive surgery is one of the most commonly performed operations in the United States and by Beverly Hills LASIK surgeons. The newest laser-assisted procedures are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat up to 6 diopters (D) of astigmatism correction, which includes roughly 98% of all astigmatism patients. Advances in laser technology continue to improve treatment outcomes.

Guttman reported on a recent study by Barraquer, a private practitioner in Colombia, of 364 astigmatic myopic patients treated with a new generation “flying spot” excimer laser. Barraquer reported postoperative best-corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in 99% of treated eyes at 3 months. Astigmatic correction was achieved to within ±0.50 D in 92% of eyes.

Remember that for patients in or around Beverly Hills LASIK was used after the detection of astigmatism to treat it in its early and advanced stages. Because children may also have astigmatism, it is important that eye examinations be scheduled at regular intervals to detect any astigmatism early on.

When someone decides that they want LASIK, they rarely consider the type of laser that will be used to fix their vision. While it is true that there are many different lasers used by ophthalmologists to correct myopia or hyperopia, you may want to know a little about the one that will be used on your eyes, especially if you are concerned about some of the side effects on your night vision that you may have heard about. Halos and glare are extremely rare, but they have a bothersome effect on LASIK patients. One of the latest generation lasers that can solve these types of issues is called the Allegretto Wave excimer laser.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the Allegretto Wave laser in 2003 for use with LASIK surgery. Allegretto Wave uses PerfectPulse Technology. This technology basically means that the laser is calibrated for your individual eye and does not act as a blanket solution for all eyes. Think of your eye like a fingerprint: no one else has your exact eye. One of the problems with older lasers is that they may have acted as a one-size-fits-all solution. It is here where some of the problems with LASIK have occurred. With Allegretto Wave’s PerfectPulse Technology, the beam’s pulse hits your eye exactly where it should. Checkpoints are made even as the pulse works at 200 times per second. If an adjustment is needed, this can be done, if your eye moves out of the beam’s range, for example.

Allegretto Wave also uses something called wavefront-guided technology. This essentially creates a map of your eye. Because no two eyes are the same, the eye’s “cartography” is important at the microscopic level. Since the laser will be sculpting your cornea, it is necessary that a map be created so that the 200 pulses per second know where they’re going. When this is done, more corneal tissue is preserved.

One of the unique features about Allegretto Wave is that it is able to read a large optical zone. This is the zone of the pupil that is affected by night vision (the more light needed in the eye, the larger the pupil zone). Through reading and mapping the entire optical zone, the chances of halos and glare are nearly eliminated.

Lasik eye surgery is used to certain visual ailments such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It aims to make better visual sight through permanently reshaping the cornea. It is a procedure done with the use of laser by ophthalmologists. Roughly six million Americans have gone through Lasik although it never guarantees 20/20 vision. Its long term safety is still unknown. But according to the report by the Ophthalmology Societies, around 95% of their patients are pleased with their new vision.

There is a list of compiled complications of Lasik surgery.

It causes dryness of the eye. Experiencing dry eye is the most frequent complication related to Lasik. Even The US Food and Drug Administration warns about permanently experiencing dry eyes.

It results to visual quality loss. Some Lasik patients were reported to experience trouble seeing details in dim lights. At times, some even experience visual distortions.

After Lasik, the cornea isn’t capable of complete healing. It is reported to weaken one’s cornea because of damaging collagen bands which provide protection to the eye.

Long term consequences are associated with Lasik surgery. Lasik patients are prone to cataracts. As such, patients are more exposed to undergoing repeat cataract surgeries.

It isn’t advisable for patients to undergo bilateral simultaneous Lasik surgery. The surgery being performed on the same day puts the patients at risk of vision loss in both eyes.

After Lasik, there are more serious complications which may arise. There were several after-Lasik complications reported such as inflammation resulting in corneal haze, flap dislocation and retinal detachment.

It doesn’t completely remove the need for glasses. Still, Lasik does not ensure getting rid of reading eyeglasses by the time patients reach the age of 40. As the effectiveness of Lasik decreases each year, Lasik patients are more likely to use eyeglasses again.

Until now, the real result of Lasik complications is not fully determined. It was recorded that FDA allowed Lasik manufacturers not to disclose the results of clinical trials.

After Lasik, treatment options are limited. Lasik treatments are permanent and unalterable.

There are still safer options instead of Lasik. Eyeglasses and contact lens are still the safest methods to improve vision.

At present, the Food and Drug Administration is conducting a study which aims to determine the number of patients who experience the harmful effects which Lasik Surgery may cause. It is expected to be completed by 2012. Just recently, FDA sent out warning letters to 17 Lasik surgery centers for not giving full reports on the unfavorable effects of Lasik. Because of the reported negative after-effects by some Lasik patients, FDA will undergo a series of inspections to some centers for monitoring.

The price of Lasik ranges from $1000 to $5000 today. It is rather expensive. However, there are several Lasik financing options available, which is not a common knowledge. Generally, there is a very high percentage of the number of patients satisfied with the Lasik result. You must contact an ophthalmologist if you believe you are ready and able to undergo the Lasik procedure.

These tiny prescription lenses were created to replace the focusing power of the eye’s natural lens during cataract surgery. Prior to the introduction of IOLs, cataract patients had to wear thick glasses or special contacts after surgery, making them essentially blind without their glasses.

Currently, more than one million IOLs are implanted each year in the United States, giving cataract patients the best vision of their lives. Intraocular lenses were originally introduced as inflexible lenses that required larger incisions. Now, technology has provided ophthalmologists with two different types: hard and foldable. The advantage to foldable lenses, made of acrylic or silicone, is that they can be folded up and inserted with a much smaller incision, then unrolled within the eye.

Advances in Intraocular Lenses

The foldable lens is just one of the advancements in intraocular lens technology. After the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first IOL in 1981, IOLs found widespread acceptance and manufacturers saw other potential applications, eventually pushing for more IOL variety. Those choices include:

Multifocal lenses – offering variable distance viewing with greater possibility that glasses or contacts will not be needed. ReZoom™ and ReStor® provide clear vision at all distances and offer greater freedom from eyewear than traditional monofocal IOLs.

Toric IOLs – reduces or eliminates corneal astigmatism and greatly improves distance vision without the need for corrective lenses. The Staar Surgical IOL and the AcrySof® IQ Toric IOL will help the blurriness at all distances often caused by an ovoid corneal shape.

Accommodating IOLs – a revolutionary lens design that after implantation will change focus as the patient views objects at varying distances. The Crystalens® is controlled by the same eye muscles that controlled the natural lens.

Aspheric IOLs – a lens that provides better contrast sensitivity than other IOLs. The Tecnis® IOL is a good choice for those who often drive at night, as it provides clearer vision in low light conditions.

Filtering IOLs – can restore the natural eye’s ultraviolet (UV) light filtering that is removed in cataract surgery. Other IOLs have blue light filters; blue light is thought to play a role in causing age-related macular degeneration.

Monofocal lenses – an older type of IOL offering vision at only one distance that can be augmented by the use of glasses or contacts.

Cataract surgery has become a simple procedure with an excellent success record. So, for those who view the world as if they peer through a steamy bathroom mirror, IOLs have made seeing a great deal more enjoyable.

The first thing that comes to our mind when it comes to the matter of eye surgery is Lasik surgery. This surgery is all what we think about for corrective vision procedures and there are various alternatives to this surgery today. The option can be chosen resting upon your eye condition, the surgeon who is going to operate and the budget you are comfortable in paying. Thus it is important for you to know the various kinds of this surgery available so that you can make the right click. There are many people who do not understand what lasik eye surgery is. Probably you might be interested in lasik if you are wearing contact lenses or glasses. Many people have achieved better vision without having to wear glasses or contact lenses. It is a type of surgery that reshapes cornea and improves your visual sharpness.

Laser beams are used in this surgery to remove the corneal tissue without disturbing nearby cells. A hinged corneal flap is created with microkeratome blade or laser before that. The corneal flap is repositioned underlying corneal tissue that has been removed. The surgery is a painless procedure since the surgeon will use anesthetic eye drops to numb your eye. Since your eyelids are secured with a small instrument to keep your eye wide open during the surgery so you may feel a little uncomfortable.

Since the cornea healing with this procedure is faster and less painful than other eye surgeries such as PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) so it has been the most popular eye surgery these days and it has also been performed on more than one million people in the world. The practice of this surgery is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), including the approval of all medical devices used for the procedure, especially the lasers used for the Lasik eye surgery.
