Cheap eyeglasses are a reality. Check out Eric’s review of Zenni Optical

When your cheap prescription glasses break or need to be replaced, what do you do? If you’re like most people, you go to your optometrist and get a prescription and then you head to an eyeglass store for the actual pair of eyeglasses. And those eyeglasses are really expensive, aren’t they? Even going to an eyeglass store like Lens Crafters or Cohen Fashion Optical over at Kings Plaza can be expensive, with costs exceeding $100 for a single pair of basic glasses. However, there is a solution. There is a place with cheap eyeglasses that are just as good as what you’ll find elsewhere. The place I’m talking about is Zenni Optical and their prices will blow you away.

Before we go any further, a disclaimer: this author has exactly zero relationship with Zenni optical other than being a satisfied customer. No money has been paid to him or Examiner.com for reviewing Zenni Optical and no goods were offered, nor was this review requested or in any way initiated by Zenni Optical or Examiner.com Now, back to the review, which is what you want to know about anyway. Zenni sells full prescription eyeglasses starting at just $8 per pair. Yes, that’s right, eight bucks. Talk about cheap prescription eyeglasses, huh? Their prices range up to around $40 and there is an extra charge if you want bifocals or thick lenses. They also charge extra for anti-glare coating (though it’s $4.95 extra as opposed to around $50-$100 extra elsewhere). Shipping is just $4.95 no matter how many pairs you order, so it pays to order for the whole family at one time.

The way Zenni is able to offer their memory metal eyeglasses for so cheap is that they are manufactured overseas at a lab in China (though the quality is just as good as anything bought here) and that points up the biggest drawback with Zenni optical. They take a few weeks to send you your glasses, so if you simply must have them in an hour or two, you’ll need to use someone local.

Another drawback is that there are no designer frames. Then again, if you were looking for 10 dollar eyeglass frame, you’d probably be looking elsewhere anyway. One other major drawback is that you must provide them with your PD (pupilary distance) number. This is the distance between the black part of your eyes and it’s used to calculate exactly how large the frame needs to be. While they tell you how to do it yourself, it pays to contact your eye doctor and ask for your PD number since the do it yourself method rarely produces accurate results. Your PD number will not be written down on a prescription, however your doctor will provide the number if you request it.

I’ve personally purchased all my glasses from Zenni for the past eight years or so and have never been disappointed with them. In this tough economy, it pays for all us Brooklynites to stick together and find ways of saving money. I strongly suggest dropping by Zenni to check them out at .

One more note: For those truly suffering in this economy, there are also discounted eye exams available at Lutheran Medical Center, which range in cost from $15-$50 depending on income (bring three pay stubs, unemployment statements or some other proof of your income when you go).

How to Find Discount Eye Glasses

Is it time to update your look with a new pair of glasses? You could go the traditional route and buy a pair from your optometrist – but you’ll pay big bucks. You can even try to save money by going to discount stores like Walmart or Costco, but you still may be over paying. The best option is to buy prescription glasses online.

When you shop online, you’ll find women’s cheap prescription eyewear, even designer brands, at great pricing. You may ask yourself, “isn’t it a hassle to get your eyeglasses online”? Not at all. It’s no different than shopping for clothes online. You find the style you like and get a great discount on eye glasses.

So what do you need to do to buy prescription glasses online? Here are some easy steps to follow:

Get you prescription ready. If you haven’t visited an eye doctor in a while, you may want to get a check-up before ordering your glasses. As you get older, you want to have an eye check-up at least once a year. Your optometrist or optician can then give you a written prescription for your glasses.

Ask your optician to measure your temple length and bridge size. These are measurements you can figure out yourself with the aid of a tape measure, but if you can have a professional measure you, so much the better. You will need this measurement when you select frames.

Go shopping. Look at popular sites for eyeglasses and pay attention to the styles available. Think about what style works best with your face shape. Just like when you pick out a pair of sunglasses at the store, you can do the same eyeglasses – visit a local eyeglass store at the mall or discount store and try on frames. Make notes about what looks best on your face: small frames, colored frames, round shapes, teardrop, etc. There’s no harm in window shopping. Just take that information home while you shop online.

You can buy prescription glasses on line at great discounts. Online retailers can offer a great selection at great prices because they don’t have the expensive overhead of maintaining and staffing a store. Instead of spending money on expenses and passing that along in higher prices, these stores offer discount eye glasses at a fraction of the price you’ll find in stores.

With a little research, you can save hundreds of dollars on your next pair of glasses. It doesn’t make sense to spend too much for glasses, especially when you can find great glasses at a great price.

Clip on Sunglasses

Many people who have poor eyesight are bothered with the question: “How can I wear sunglasses if I am nearsighted”? Yes, it does present a problem if you wear a pair of eyeglasses on your nose. But don’t worry there is an easy solution for you, which can help you out of the embarrassing situation.

As we all know, a correction surgery will help you restore your eyesight. Thus, you can wear any kind of sunglasses as you like to protect your eyes from strong sunlight or just only to add to your charm. Besides, wearing contact lenses is another choice. However, the two ways above don’t work that perfect for all people. On one hand, a correction surgery is costly and postoperative recovery can not be guaranteed so far. On the other hand, contact lenses are not good for everyone, nor are they good when worn frequently. Plus, there indeed exist some people who are allergic to contact lenses.

Therefore, the best way worth recommending is the clip on. Comparing with above solutions, you don’t need to pay a lot of money to do an operation and also be troubled by some unknown sequela, nor do you need wear a pair of uncomfortable contact lenses which may make you allergic. You just need wear your own eyeglasses and with clip-on, and then you can realize your dream to wear sunglasses as a poor-sighted person.

Clip on glasses are a kind of glasses clipped onto the regular eyewear frame, which are placed on your own glasses. With the clip-on, you can make your sunglasses dream come true. Clip-on can easily get at an eyeglass store. But if you like shopping on the net, it would be a good choice. You can buy a pair of prescription rimless eyeglass with various types of clip-ons at the website such us www.Firmoo.com , it is easy and convenient. It will present your grace and elegance. Half-rim frame with clip on is also a perfect match. Black makes your cool, brown displays your refined taste, and red is fashion. Above all, will the clip on be your first and best choice? And I think the answer should be “Absolutely Yes”!

Face shapes and personal colorings

In order to get a best appearance, the eyeglass frame you selected should match your face shape and your personal coloring. These two aspects are most important among various factors in choosing right eyeglasses. In the eyeglass store, you can try on some glasses to find the best match.

There are some criteria of eyeglass frame color, size and shape. The color of eyewear should go with your personal coloring. The frame shape should contrast with your face shape and the frame size should be in scale of your face size. The existing seven basic face shapes require different shaped frames.

Round and oval faces have few angles. While a round face requires a rectangular shaped frame, an oval face needs a frame that is as wide as the broadest part of the face. You should choose a frame shape to make a round face appear thinner and longer and select a frame to keep an oval face’s natural ideal balance.

In contrast, oblong and square faces have more obvious angles. People with an oblong face usually have a long straight cheek line and sometimes a longish nose. While an oblong face is longer than it is wide, a square face has an equal width and length. Frames with a more depth than width are suitable for people with oblong faces and frames with more width than depth flatter those with square faces.

There is still another obvious contrast between base-down triangle and base-up triangle faces. While a base-down triangular face has a narrow forehead and wide cheek and chin area, a base-up triangular face has a very wide top third and small bottom third. Eyeglass frames for the former type should add width to the upper face, and frames for the latter type should be wider at the bottom.

Diamond-shape faces are rare and require frames with detailing or distinctive brow lines.

Personal coloring is another critical consideration while choosing eyeglass frames. As mentioned before, eyeglass color should go with personal coloring, which is either cool or warm. Cool (blue-based) coloring or warm (yellow-based) coloring involves three aspects: skin, eyes and hair.

Skin tone is the most determinative element of personal coloring. It is estimated that about 60% of Americans have a cool coloring, which has blue or pink undertones. The other 40% of people have warm colorings. Eye color is considered as the second determinative factor. While blue eyes fall into warm coloring, brown eyes are cool. Cool hair colors include blond, platinum, white etc… And a warm hair color can be golden blond, flat black, brown-gold and so on.
