<p>The essence of Bates Method is to relax. This method holds that one just needs to relief the stains on his eyes and eye muscles. Judging from the stances of sciences, this method brings no effectiveness, and it can not help people improve their vision. At certain level, astigmatism has no impacts on vision and does not need special treatment. However, when astigmatism results in distorted or blurred vision, eye discomfort and headaches, astigmatism correction is needed.</p>
<p>What is astigmatism? Astigmatism is a kind of vision disorders (usually blurred vision) caused by distortions in the curved shape of the front surface of the eye (cornea) and/or the curvature of the lens inside the eye. It can also be caused by years of stress and strain on the eyes. The strain on the eyes can weaken the tiny muscles around the eyes. Problems appear when the eyes need to change shape of cornea or lens. An irregular shape of cornea or lens prevents light from focusing properly on the retina, the light sensitive surface at the back of the eye. As a result, vision becomes blurred at any distance.</p>
<p>Astigmatism usually comes together with other vision problems like nearsightedness (myopia) and farsightedness (hyperopia). All of these vision conditions are called refractive errors because they influence how the eyes bend or &#8220;refract&#8221; light. Now the question is how we can do the astigmatism correction when we have these errors. Below are just a few tips which you can do to heal astigmatism.</p>
<p>You can use a pendulum for astigmatism correction. You just lie on the floor and swing the pendulum over your head. Try to follow and focus on direction where the pendulum moves. This exercise can keep your eyes focused on one object. If you keep doing this exercise, your eyes will have better capability in focusing on a certain object.</p>
<p>When you feel your eyes are tired, you should take a break. Spend a few minutes to relax your eyes. During the break you can have eye exercise by moving your eyes around. You can also look at the yard or green grass outside. Keep your eyes away from your computer monitor if you work with a computer. Relaxation can release the tense of tiny muscles on your eyes. After the relaxation you will recover your vision.</p>
<p>Another treatment for astigmatism is called Orthokeratology (ortho-k). This treatment uses a series of specially designed rigid contact lenses to slowly reshape the curvature of the cornea. What is good about this treatment is that it is painless.</p>
<p>Eye surgery is also another option for treating astigmatism. The surgery usually uses laser. The purpose of the surgery is to reshape the cornea by removing a small part of eye tissue.</p>

<p>It is reported that a lower risk of age-related macular degeneration comes along with a higher level of HDL cholesterol and cataracts may likely to occur owing to the high level of C-reactive protein caused by inflammation. So it is important to increase HDL and reduce C-reactive protein to keep your eye health.</p>
<p>Regular exercise including focus and rotation exercises are very good methods to strengthen the muscles surrounding the eyes, and the muscle relaxing is a helpful action for good vision.</p>
<p>I will introduce a focus exercise which is called string and bead exercise. First of all, you need to take your focus and eyesight off from your work. Then get a 6’ string and 10 colored beads with holes prepared. Put the beads through the string every 6’’ interval. Tie a knot at each end of the bead and then use a tack to hold it to the wall at your eye level. Hold the other end of the string on your nose. After that, you can do your eye exercise. Focus on the bead nearest to the wall first, then the next bead, one at a time. Practice until you can tell one bead each at one time exactly. That is to say, your eyes are fully exercised.</p>
<p>Another rotation exercise is very easy but quite effective. You can do like this, looking as far as you can to the left, right, up and down several times. It is better if your surroundings are covered with green because the color of green is good for your eyesight.</p>
<p>Our eyes are made up of tiny internal and external muscles, and these muscles help to move the eyes, help to focus and control the shape of eyes. Relaxing is a key factor to maintain good eyesight, so please do not always focus on one thing at a long time and do eye exercise regularly.</p>

While some studies prove that eye exercise can both strengthen the eyes and improve eyesight, others have not found apparent benefit for vision improvement. However, one point has gained agreement from all those studies that performing certain eye exercises can strengthen the eyes.</p>
<p>One type is called eye focus exercise. A person can simply hold a pen or pencil close enough so that it can be seen clearly. Then focus the eyes on the object for several seconds. After that, switch the eyesight into an object about 10 feet away for another several seconds. Alternately repeating the two objects can help the eyes improve focus ability.</p>
<p>Thumb rotations can be used to train one eye at a time. For example, a person can cover the left eye with his left hand and train the right eye first. Hold the right thumb up directly in front, on which should be focused by the right eye. The right hand can then make a variety of shaped such as circles, half circles, squares, and triangles and so on. During these changes, the right eye should move to maintain focus on the right thumb, without any movement of the head. After doing this several times, switch to the left eye.</p>
<p>Another eye exercise is to rotate the eyes. A person can start this exercise with his eyes focused on the eyebrows and make the largest circle possible while rolling the eyes.</p>
<p>People with poor vision are highly encouraged to take these kinds of eye exercises for only several minutes every day. It is necessary to remove contact lenses before performing any kind of these exercise, otherwise the lenses may become dislodged.</p>

<p>General tips when doing eye exercises please take off your glasses or contact lenses, you will then feel more comfortable and relaxed. </p>
<p>When doing the exercises, intensely concentrate on your eyes. Feel them working and coming to life again! </p>
